ELA Curricula and the ASCD Curriculum Mapping Project:
RHHS participated in a curriculum mapping project led by ASCD at John Bowne HS in the spring of 2011. Language arts and social studies teachers worked independently on developing curriculum maps for their subject areas. The emphasis was on incorporating the CCS (Common Core Standards) into the curricula for these two subject areas.
NB The ELA curriculum is largely complete with reference to the inclusion of CCS (Common Core Standard) skills. This is not the case with the social studies curricula.
The ELA curricula was organized by skill and divided into 9th – 10th grade levels and 11th – 12th grade levels. See the alternate ELA page for the second set of ELA units:
Re. Interdisciplinary Projects: Since one of our mandates is to ensure interdisciplinary the ELA reading list needs to be adjusted to reflect changes in the social studies sequence. Note that 9th graders entering in the fall of 2011 will take US History instead of Global 1 & 2. Current 9th and 10th grades will of necessity complete the current course sequence.
